After successfully completing the treatment programme. The client will want to rebuild their life. They will want to experience living, free from the constraints of their addiction for the first time. As a result, there will be challenges.
The main challenge will be to become an active member of society and to leave the mess of their problems behind. Making a fresh start is always an exciting prospect. However, it can also be a daunting experience as there will be certain elements of their past addiction that will not have disappeared overnight.
At Change we do our best to provide the addict with a strong support network in the first 18 months of their recovery. It is a transitional period and support can only make it a more fluid process. In addition to the aftercare groups they attend for up to 18 months, we arrange counselling with a therapist or clinical psychologist to enable them to deal with "life on lifes terms".
We will always offer the addicts family support. This will come in the form of a family group session for as long as they want to attend. There is no time limit. We also offer personal counselling which we feel can have significant value when learning how to live and interact with the recovering addict. Co-dependency groups are also on offer to families that want to work through problems in a professional environment where communication can be effective.
The future can be an exciting and rewarding time not only for the recovering addict, but for their loved ones too. However, when you leave rehab, real life challenges start to occur. We want to be able to help as best as we can to support our client and their family through these times.
