Around three-quarters of patients responding to a sexual health clinic survey have admitted to engaging in unprotected sex after drinking too much.
Published in the International Journal of STD and AIDS the study found 14 per cent of men say they use a condom with sexual partners after consuming alcohol, according to a Daily Mail report.
The newspaper highlights the state of British teenagers' sexual health, advising them common sense can be impaired by alcohol abuse.
Linda Tucker, co-author of the study, told the publication: "The link between sexual risk and drinking too much alcohol is not the most original idea in the world, but we now have clear scientific evidence of the relationship."
The findings also included nine in ten patients admitting they regularly exceed recommended daily drinking guidelines.
In addition, it was found women who binge-drank had had more sexual partners than those who did not.
Recently, the National Audit Office has called for GPs to focus more on detecting and tackling alcohol addiction early as the NHS struggles to cope with the repercussions of drinking in England.
