A social networking website is to host a rally in Miami to encourage drug and alcohol addiction recovery.
Taking place at Bicentennial Park on Saturday (September 19th), InTheRooms will hold the event to allow recovered addicts to celebrate their sobriety together, the Miami Herald reports.
Ken Pomerance, co-founder of InTheRooms and himself a former drug addict, told the news source that the day is also aimed at showing current addicts how liberating it is to be free from substance abuse.
"Our whole goal in this is to have a vision of hope," Mr Pomerance said.
"We want people who are struggling with their own addictions to look at all these people and say, 'Wow. Isn't that powerful?','' he added.
However, many addicts will not be able to tackle their problems through social networking or public events and will need to seek out tailored drug or alcohol abuse services.
The event will be rounded off by a performance from Eric Burdon and The Animals and former Aerosmith guitarist Richie Supa will sing a song called In The Rooms, dedicated to the addiction recovery website.
InTheRooms.com allows addicts to make new friends and support each other on the road to recovery.
