Bristol needs more rehab clinics to cope with the significant number of people in the city that are struggling with an addiction problem, it has been claimed.
The Bristol Evening Post reports that Dr Tom Smyth, an expert in drug abuse who regularly deals with people suffering from addiction, believes as many as one in 50 people living in Bristol have addiction problems.
"Everybody knows someone in their extended family who has misused drugs," he told the newspaper.
Dr Smyth added that a major problem in trying to tackle drug abuse is the stigma and "social isolation" that many users experience from their peers and even family as a result of their addictions.
Many rehab clinics employ a wide variety of methods in order to help people tackle their addiction problems and often focus on delivering tailored services that are designed to react to an individual addict's specific needs.
This approach can help people deal with the mental aspect of their addiction, such as coping with the stigmatism that can sometimes be put upon them because of their problem.
