Wiltshire has hosted a five-a-side football tournament as part of addiction treatment for people with drug problems across the country.
The Wiltshire Times reports that the Wiltshire addiction support Project held the event as part of an effort to increase understanding about drug addiction and also help offer a distraction for people in rehab centres receiving addiction treatment.
Organiser Aaron Gibbins hailed the event, which saw teams from across England and Wales competing against each other, as a success.
"It was about service users and service providers coming together for one day where there is no 'staff and us' attitude, everyone is just a footballer," he explained.
The event took place at the Leighton Sports Centre in Westbury and the winners were presented with a shield from chief superintendent Julian Kirby from Wiltshire Police.
Physical activities are increasingly being used by rehab centres to form part of addiction treatment services because of the opportunity it provides to relax addicts and take their mind off their problems.
In the US, the Mountainside Treatment Center offers patients the chance to get addiction treatment while undertaking strenuous exercise and walking activities in the beautiful hills around Connecticut.
