Expert states while dependencies impact on carers' lives, there are drug addiction support carer groups that can help them through the process, a source reveals.
Anne Billingham, a substance misuse carer support worker at the Swindon Carers Centre, claims friends or families close to those undergoing drug or alcohol rehab programmes also require help, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
She says there are 300 people in the local area who are undergoing substance addiction treatment and predicts ten times this number are suffering due to seeing their loved ones' dependencies.
"Drugs and alcohol don't just create victims from those who are addicted but from their families and friends as well," she states.
According to the news provider, the Swindon Carers Centre offers a number of programmes including a supported community detox service, holistic therapies and aftercare support.
Ms Billingham tells the source to tackle the isolation carers feel it is important people realise there are many others going through similar experiences.
Kathleen Wood, a mother who supported her son through detox therapy, recently told the Press and Journal family support is "absolutely key" when it comes to drug rehabilitation programmes.
