Scottish government plans to increase the amount of funding available for rehab clinics in Scotland have been welcomed by political groups.
Brian Adam, the Scottish National Party's representative for Aberdeen North, says the additional money is "particularly good news" for the area.
Fergus Ewing, minister for community safety, has announced there will be an extra £938,000 made available for drug addiction clinics offering integrated treatment and rehabilitation.
Mr Adams states his party asserted in 2007 it would help develop and support a long-term national strategy which aims to tackle the "scourge" of substance addiction in the country.
He claims: "There are no short-term fixes to the problems of drug misuse in Scotland but this announcement goes some way to take that problem head on - particularly in Aberdeen."
The funding will go towards supporting health boards, which will help organise and administer efforts to tackle the problem.
In other news, the Isle of Skye is to get an alcohol detox centre which it is hoped will reduce the burden placed on the area's hospitals by problem drinkers.
