As many as one in 25 deaths worldwide are related to alcohol, according to new research demonstrating the importance for people with a problem to head to a rehab center to come to terms with their issues.
The shocking figures compiled by Canada's Center for Addiction and Mental Health show that alcohol-attributable disorders, many stemming from alcohol addiction, are among the most disabling disease categories within the global burden of disease.
However, Jurgen Rehm, who led the study, claimed that the methods to tackle addiction problems and provide people with proper addiction treatment currently exist and urged authorities to invest more effort in promoting such approaches.
"Today, we know more than ever about which strategies can effectively and cost-effectively control alcohol-related harms," he explained.
Dr Rehm continued: "Provided that our public policy makers act on these practical strategies expeditiously, we could see an enormous impact in reducing damage."
rehab clinics across the globe are increasingly looking to provide tailored treatment services to patients, recognising that the reasons behind each individual's addiction can be personal to them and therefore a one-size-fits-all approach cannot be as effective.
