A former alcoholic who has received addiction treatment to transform his life has been nominated for a major award recognising his efforts to improve his education.
Robert Davies, from Ravenhill in Swansea, south Wales, lost his home and his work running a bar and nightclub through his alcohol addiction.
But after being directed to the West Glamorgan Council for Alcohol and drug abuse by his GP, who told him he would die unless he tackled his alcoholism, Mr Davies has turned his life around.
The Western Mail reports that Mr Davies' stay in the rehab clinic helped him not only tackle his problem but also discover a love for learning and he has since put that into practice, currently studying for a HND in health and social care at Swansea Metropolitan University.
"I'm rejuvenated and thoroughly engaged with life which is remarkable considering where I was a year ago," he told the newspaper.
His hard work has seen him nominated for an Inspire! Adult Learner of the Year award.
In March, the Western Mail reported the case of a reformed drug and alcohol addict who went on to become a priest after successful addiction treatment.
