Alcohol is a dangerous drug just like any other and people should not be fooled into thinking otherwise, it has been claimed.
William C Moyers, a former addict and son of renowned PBS journalist Bill, has spoken out against the threat that alcohol can pose to people and how easy it can be to get hooked on alcohol.
Asked by the Denver Post whether he considered there to be any difference between drugs and alcohol, Mr Moyers responded: "I think a drug is a drug is a drug. The only difference is alcohol is legal."
While he added that he was not against drinking responsibly, he explained that he is now working with young people to highlight the dangers alcohol can pose.
"There's nothing wrong with responsible drinking as long as you're 21 or over. But, it is a drug that changes the mood and the mind," he said.
A report in Scotland recently revealed that drug and alcohol misuse is costing the country's economy a massive £5 billion per year.
The Scottish Executive wants to introduce minimum prices on alcoholic drinks in a bid to cut down on the number of people seeking addiction treatment for their problems.
