A prominent former member of the drug addiction community will be speaking to delegates at this year's Advantage Conference in Switzerland.
The travel event will feature a talk by former drug user and author Richard McCann, whose book Just a Boy chronicles his life as the son of the first victim of Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, TravelWeekly reports.
It was this event that ultimately led him to seek drug addiction support. Mr McCann left school without any qualifications and later suffered psychological problems before discovering drugs.
He found solace in the army but was later dismissed before ending up in prison after being convicted of a drugs offence.
Mr McCann's story highlights the importance of addiction therapy early on, with the correct drug addiction treatment eradicating the threat of prison in addition to allowing a person to begin to lead a normal life.
The BBC commissioned a programme about Mr McCann's life in 2005, and the production was shown all around the world.
He is expected to tell conference delegates how drug abuse counselling helped him to ultimately achieve success, with the event taking place in Lucerne between May 21st and 22nd.
On Thursday (January 28th), Mr McCann will talk about his book at the Literary Tea event in Harrogate, the Nidderdale Herald reports.
