Singer Corinne Bailey-Rae's husband died after accidentally consuming a cocktail of drink and drugs.
A coroner ruled the death of 31-year-old Jason Rae was due to him consuming methadone and alcohol at the same time.
Coroner David Hinchcliff ruled a verdict of misadventure saying the combination of the drug and drink can be "devastating".
Ms Bailey-Rae, who did not attend the hearing, said in a statement that her husband had struggled with alcohol for quite a few years.
Earlier this year Mr Rae was found dead in a flat in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, three bottles of methadone the heroin substitute were found next to the body and more was found in the fridge.
The musician's friend was using the drug to treat a heroin addiction and had been prescribed the drug.
The coroner warned that the "naive use" of the drug addiction treatment would lead to the user being more severely affected than an experienced user.
A post-mortem examination found traces of cocaine and ecstasy in the body, but not enough to contribute to Mr Rae's death.
Bailey-Rae said her husband would only ever try drugs when he had been drinking, never using them soberly.
The singer has previously said she is devastated by her husband's death but thanks fans for respecting her privacy.
