Drug addictions and gang violence is becoming an increasing cause for concern in Belfast, it has been reported.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, an escalation in violence between rival gangs could be about to erupt, with drug addiction forming the centre of the problem.
People with addiction problems need to be provided with treatment and recognise that they have a problem if the violence is to be contained.
Getting drug addicts to rehab clinics can provide an important first step in helping them to overcome their problems, allowing them to receive the addiction treatment they need.
According to the newspaper, many paramilitary groups are still active in drug dealing and as more people are being turned into drug addicts, there are concerns that violence between the groups will flare.
However, if addicts can receive the treatment they need, the problem could be kept under control.
Scotland's government has recently announced plans to introduce a minimum price on alcoholic drinks in an effort to cut down on the country's alcohol addiction rates.
Recent figures suggested the country loses £5 billion per year to alcohol-related problems.
