A national campaign seeking to find out the alcohol abuse habits of the West Midlands is reaching its conclusion.
The Big Drink Debate will come to its conclusion at the end of the month and aims to inform about trends in the area.
Over the last two months, 6,000 people have taken part in the project, which will form part of the government's regional alcohol abuse and addiction strategy.
Dr Jammi Rao, deputy regional director of public health, claims the conclusion of the study should not lead to an end to the message.
He says: "[The festive season] will see many people's alcohol consumption increase, and while we aren't saying people shouldn't go out and enjoy themselves, it's important they consider the effects of their own health."
So far, the survey has found 65 per cent believe there is a drink problem in the region, which includes addiction, anti-social behaviour, drink driving and crime.
According to a spokesperson from Alcohol Concern, early identification can reduce the need for alcohol rehab centres by allowing information to be targeted at those with the most to benefit from it.
