A former drug and alcohol abuser has written a new book chronicling his battle with addiction and explained how he managed to beat his demons with the help of addiction recovery support.
Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting! was written by rehabilitated drug addict Robert Boich.
While to outsiders Mr Boich appeared to have a perfect life, with a successful career and loving family, on the inside he was falling apart, due to an alcohol addiction which was fuelling increasing recreational drug binges.
The book tells the story not only of Mr Boich's descent into drug addiction but also his successful addiction treatment and subsequent recovery with the help of a rehab center.
Mr Boich says the book could provide the inspiration for other addicts to turn their lives around and tackle their problems head-on, just as he did.
"Any alcoholic or addict who reads this book can identify with where I was and what I had gone through," he explained.
Mr Boich added: "Likewise, if they have a desire to turn their lives around, many of the topics I discuss will be familiar to them."
Many rehab clinics will use the experiences of others to provide sources of inspiration and support to patients.
rehab centers often employ buddying schemes, where two patients are brought together to support each other and help them through the rehabilitation process.
