John Cleese has been praised by his daughter for helping her get into a rehabilitation clinic for her drink and drugs problems.

Camilla Cleese has praised her actor father for saving her from drink and drug addiction.

John Cleese, of Fawlty Towers fame, was praised for his tough love towards his daughter in helping her get out of a narcotics addiction.

Camilla has now been clean for 20 months and says all people should be warned about drug and alcohol abuse as it "cuts across all social boundaries".

"It nearly killed me and I know how lucky I am to be here today. If my story helps just one person, then the hell I put myself and my family through will not have been in vain," she adds.

The star relates how her alcohol and cocaine addictions went hand in hand and that each time she drank she would also take drugs.

Camilla says she hit rock bottom before realising she needed to go to a rehabilitation clinic, which her dad booked for her.

The celebrity daughter says the clinic got her clean and off the drug abuse, adding that she was able to talk about her problems in the sessions.

Father John says of his daughter: "Of all the things I’ve done in my life, she is my greatest joy and her being sober is the most wonderful gift anyone has ever given me."

A recent study claims to have found a gene which can increase the risk of alcohol addiction.
