Free drug addiction treatment is being provided by a group of churches in Detroit in a bid to tackle the area's problems.
According to the Detroit News, pastors representing more than 40 churches have come together to offer free programmes that can help to put people on course to beat their addictions and also provide them with information on rehab clinics.
"All of our churches have people who have been addicted," Reverend Joseph Jordan told the newspaper.
"I see this as part of the church ministry," he added.
Calvin Trent, the director of the city health department, suggested that the service would also help to radically cut crime, explaining that up to 80 per cent of criminal activity in the area is perpetrated by drug addicts.
A man in Wales recently told of his long road from drug addiction to turning to God and becoming a priest.
Richard Taylor told Wales on Sunday how he was once a criminal and drug addict who managed to seek treatment and receive help from rehab clinics to tackle his addiction and slowly turn to religion as part of his fight.
During several stints in prison, Mr Taylor's attitude was slowly transformed and he began reading the Bible, eventually converting and beating his addiction.
