It is the first drug that substance abusers try that is the most harmful among western Sydney's drug addicts.
This is according to The Sydney Morning Herald's Joel Gibson, who said that the first drug taken on the path to addiction is more dangerous than heroin or crack cocaine.
In an interview with Judge Roger Dive of the Parramatta Drug Court, who has spent the last ten years hearing drug cases involving men, women and children, it was stated that the biggest drug addiction myth is that it always happens to someone else.
''It can happen to anyone in any family," he explained to the newspaper's reporter.
''The community doesn't concern itself as much with it, but it's not uncommon for our clients to be able to give up what are called the harder drugs but to struggle with cannabis."
The City of Sydney has established its Drug and Alcohol Strategy, which aims to reduce crime related to drug and alcohol use in addition to limiting the impact of use in the public domain.
