Kuwaitis in need of drug addiction support are benefitting from a newly-established hotline offering advice to both addicts and their families.
An official at the hotline, which began offering drug addiction help on July 1st, said it is providing an important service as the Middle East nations attempt to deal with its problems related to drug usage, the Kuwait Times reports.
Salem Al-Nesafi, a social service researcher involved with the hotline, said those speaking to affected individuals are trained to "provide instructions for the best ways to deal with addiction".
"The first two days, due to the lack of appropriate media coverage, we received only two or three calls a day," he told the newspaper.
"After the fourth day, the average number of calls a day has reached about 13."
Mr Al-Nesafi went on to say that the hotline takes anonymity very seriously and that none of the callers' personal information is taken down.
"We just listen to their cases and answer their questions. We don't ask about name, status, address or anything else, we just evaluate the situation," he added.
According to capitalpunishmentuk.org, Kuwait is home to approximately 20,000 people in need of drug addiction intervention.
