Residents in a rehabilitation centre in Arizona have found a way to help their local community as they undergo recovery treatment, it has been revealed.
The rehabilitation clinic at Gatehouse Academy has set up a programme whereby residents referee youth soccer matches as they recover from substance abuse and addiction, allowing them to make a difference in the lives of local children.
Managing partner at the drug abuse facility Kent Sherman said: "We absolutely insist on guiding young adults toward a life of excellence, leadership and service."
Jared C, who is receiving recovery treatment at the centre and taking part in the scheme, commented: "It is a great experience to ref these games for the kids and the kids show their appreciation at every single game."
He went on to say all of those who take part in the programme are left with an increased sense of hope in the world's youth after every match.
Jared added that the programme gives Gatehouse residents the opportunity to be role models for youngsters in the area and the participants pray that the initiative can prevent children from "going down the wrong path by staying active in the things they love to do".
Last week, the China Post reported that residents of the Taichung Drug Abuser Treatment Centre in Taiwan gave violin performances for an audience of relatives, staff and peers.
