Employees returning to Aberdeen from work on offshore rigs are disrupting the lives of those around them through alcohol abuse, a charity claims.
Jack Law, the chief executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland, claims oil workers represent part of a greater problem, where those travelling after engaging in this form of substance abuse are a nuisance to others.
"Employees are also ambassadors for their companies and often wear or carry items which bear the company's name or logo," Mr Law states.
He says firms should take action to prevent this drink abuse among their staff, suggesting creating a work environment in which people can talk about addiction and dependency issues could prevent the need for alcohol interventions.
"They should be encouraged to improve alcohol awareness amongst their staff, improve staff support and create a more comfortable environment," he asserts.
Mr Law states these firms have an obligation to provide for their workforce's wellbeing and these duties of care extend to preventing alcohol abuse.
In recent related news, the West Midlands Big Drink Debate visited Birmingham this week and raised questions about why people engage in alcohol addiction.
