A government body meeting is scheduled regarding the re-classification on Ecstasy. The police have stated they think it should stay as a Class A drug.

Cannabis is currently a Class C drug and talks of reclassifying this drug did not come to a change. However, does downgrading a drug like ecstasy encourage people to use the drug more?  The police seem to think so and believe that the drug does kill around 50 a year from use of ecstasy, with approximately a quarter of a million a year using the drug.

A professor at Oxford states that ecstasy does not harm as much as crack cocaine and heroin. Therefore, downgrading it could be an option.

Holding Ecstasy will still be a serious criminal offense regardless of the outcome of the meeting

Possession of Class A and B drugs do carry heavy prison sentences. So if ecstasy were to be reclassified to a Class B drug, the maximum prison sentence would only be reduced from 7 years to 5 years.
