Incentives and reasons for getting gambling help have been explored in a recent report.
These include conserving relationships, your health and preparing for changes in your lifestyle, according to the Globe and Mail.
One instance is married Bay Street banker John Blakely - whose name the publication changed for anonymity - who was compelled to go into gambling rehab by the birth of his daughter.
He said he was scared of what kind of parent he would turn out to be after his online gambling addiction had gone on for six years, in conjunction with a sex addiction he retained from his younger years.
Mr Blakely told the newspaper: "As an adult, I would use video games so I wouldn't act out sexually it's still a way for me to escape, numb out and lose track of reality."
Another case is that of Brad Dorrance, whose wife only found out he had a problem with gambling and pornography after he tried to kill himself and racked up $24,000 (£14,814) in debt.
In other news, the Age reported gamblers in Victoria, Australia are losing AUS $5 billion (£2 billion) per year.
