A Derbyshire man who had been in urgent need of gambling addiction intervention has been jailed after stealing over £100,000 from his employers.
In order to fund his addiction, 29-year-old Scott Joy paid money into his personal bank account from Node4, the Derby Evening Telegraph reports.
Mr Joy began stealing more money in the hope of securing a big win to cancel out the money he had lost, with the company discovering the employee's actions after a visit from the bailiffs, Derby Crown Court heard
Defending, Clive Stockwell said Mr Joy had "built up a chronic addiction to gambling" and that he did not have the financial means to support his habit.
"He was looking for the bigger win to pay it all back but that never happened," the newspaper reported him as saying.
"He was given too much responsibility at too young an age. He was given control of the finances and given the password to enable him to do what he wanted to do."
Mr Joy was found to have stolen a total of £132,154 and was jailed for 16 months.
Elsewhere, the News & Star reports that Allison Thomson, who used to run the Cumbrian outlet of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, stole £186,000 to fund her addiction to gambling.
