A group specializing in gambling addiction is to hold a day to raise the profile of the condition, which could include information on rehab clinics.
The Genesee-Orleans Council on Alcoholism and substance abuse (GCASA) is to host the Gambling Awareness Program and Luncheon on March 3rd.
Among the speakers will be Mark Farrell, the senior justice of Amherst criminal and civil court, who will discuss the laws governing betting and their effect on gambling addiction.
James Maney, the executive director of the NYS Council on Problem Gambling and Tony Bellanca, a prevention specialist and community educator, will also hold talks, discussing problem betting in New York State and the effects this behavior can have on individuals and their families.
The organizers state: "Participants will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of pathological gambling, along with phases of gambling addiction."
In addition, they say the course will reveal the strategies the state is using to tackle the problem.
GCASA provides treatment, residential and prevention programs and aims to improve community health, create positive change in the community and reduce the stigma affecting people with substance abuse disorders.
