The Times has recently highlighted the effects 19-year-old heroin addict Hannah Mayne's problem has had on her parents, their relationship and her ties with them.
Following a story 18 months ago on Hannah and her mother Kate, the journalist revisited the case to find things were not improved - in fact, they had worsened.
Kate suffered a nervous breakdown, she separated from Hannah's father and her other daughter Lucy suffered as a result of the diverted attention to her troubled sibling.
Her mother's collapse saw her hospitalised for two weeks and happened as a result of the strain Hannah's addictive behaviour had on her, which included violent episodes and her breaking into the family home with her boyfriend to steal a TV to fund her habit.
Since the breakdown, Kate has attempted to review how she deals with her daughter, including taking a "tough-love" approach by cutting down on the amount of financial hand-outs she gives her.
"There is no right or wrong. You don't get a manual on how to bring up a heroin addict," she told the publication.
In other news, a cocaine addict from Grimsby has just been jailed for three years for permitting £40,000 worth of drugs to be stored in his home, according to the Grimsby Telegraph.
