Singer Joss Stone has come under severe criticism for saying cannabis is less harmful than alcohol.
The 22-year-old was castigated by anti-drugs campaigners for statements in which she appeared to glamorise drugs by saying "more horrible" Class A drugs are "fun".
Speaking to Star Magazine, Stone said: "I smoke weed, but I don't think it's really a drug, it's more of a herb. I don't regret saying that at all. I think everyone smokes weed and people who say they don't are lying."
David Raynes, head of the National Drugs Prevention Alliance, said the singer's comments could potentially have a detrimental effect on young fans who look up to her as a role model.
"People like Joss Stone should keep their mouths shut about things like this," he said.
"It is terribly damaging and she clearly hasn't considered the wider effects of the drug, although she clearly didn't get to become a pop star because she is a student of social sciences."
Fellow singer Lily Allen also provoked outrage last year when she said cocaine abuse is not a problem and its risks are overstated.
