The House of Commons home affairs committee is considering the impact of cocaine addiction on the lives of Britons and is seeking to find ways of reducing the supply of the drug into the country.
The influential committee of MPs is set to consider a variety of ways in which the government could legislate to reduce the risk of more people seeking addiction treatment for cocaine addiction as the drug continues to pervade British society.
Among those giving evidence to the committee will be the father of the singer Amy Winehouse, whose career has been blighted by drug addiction and several stints in rehab clinics.
Mitch Winehouse has long publicised his daughter's battle with drug addiction in an effort to highlight the problem and help the rehab singer to seek addiction treatment.
"We are particularly pleased that Mitch Winehouse, the father of Amy, has agreed to share with us research for a current documentary on the damaging effects of drug abuse on families and of the effectiveness of drug rehabilitation," said committee chairman Keith Vaz.
Earlier this month, official figures revealed that the number of young people suffering from cocaine addiction has doubled within the past four years.
