The government's top medical adviser is set to launch new plans that will include a minimum price on alcohol in a bid to tackle problem drinkers and binge drinking.
In a move designed to reduce the number of people suffering from alcohol addictions, chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson is to publish a report on the best way for ministers to crack down on binge drinking and reduce the availability of cheap alcohol.
One method to be recommended is the creation of a minimum price for all alcoholic goods, which could end so-called Happy Hour drinks promotions in pubs, as well as prevent cheap alcohol being sold in supermarkets.
However, there is no guarantee that the new measures will be turned into legislation, as some ministers have claimed they do not want to punish the "responsible majority" by upping the cost of alcoholic drinks, the BBC reports.
alcohol addiction treatment programmes are available to help people deal with their addiction and tackle the problem head-on.
Many rehab clinics offer tailored addiction treatment programmes that focus on the needs of the individual.
