The economic downturn is pushing people with cocaine addiction to seek treatment at rehab clinics, an expert asserts.
Adrian Rites, a recovery coach at New Choices, claims money difficulties are leading people to realise their dependency on substance abuse.
He says there have been recent rises in the number of people using the drug and recognises many of these are women.
One of the reasons for the higher number of people seeking help for their cocaine addiction is the fact many only address their dependency in their 30s, he suggests.
The recovery coach says many people who were brought up using ecstasy in the 90s and cocaine in the last decade have begun to realise they are having trouble kicking the habit.
Mr Rites states it is the financial cost of the practice which is leading a higher number of people to recognise their relationship with the drug.
"It's a very expensive habit and if you're running out of money then it's time to address the problem," he states.
Recently, drugs advisory service FRANK launched a website exploring the consequences of this substance, including the risk of developing a cocaine addiction.
