A new government advert aiming to reduce the number of young people putting themselves at risk of developing cannabis addiction.
The £2.2 million initiative will be broadcast for the first time on ITV tonight and will show the risk of experiencing short-term negative effects.
Among the consequences which will be shown are paranoia, panic attacks and nausea, with effects such as the increased risk of long-term mental and physical damage also being highlighted.
Dawn Primarolo, the public health minister, asserts that cannabis addiction is dangerous, with the drug presenting real problems for wellbeing.
She states: "What can start as a few giggles and being part of the crowd can have serious and long-term health problems. Young people need to know cannabis isn't a soft drug."
Emphasising the importance of teenagers knowing the risks they are taking when they engage in cannabis abuse, she says they must be aware of the support which is available.
FRANK recently released an advert targeted at 15 to 18 year olds which aimed to increase awareness of the risk that abuse could lead to cocaine addiction.
