People with drug problems in Swindon are to receive new drug treatment from a local organisation, it has been reported.
According to This is Wiltshire, the Swindon Carers Centre is to provide more support to people who care for those suffering with drug issues and help them to get the drug treatment they need.
"However bleak things may appear, the message is that you dont have to cope alone," said Anne Billingham, substance misuse support worker at the centre.
There are currently around 300 people receiving drug addiction treatment in Swindon every year, but Ms Billingham warns that this could be the "tip of the iceberg", with far more people suffering without receiving any treatment from rehab clinics.
As a result, the organisation is holding a series of events that will help to educate carers a bit more about the problems of addiction and provide support to those that need it.
"We hope that by coming to our workshops carers will gain a greater understanding of the illness of addiction, help to manage their own emotions and gain confidence and support for changes they might want to make," she explained.
Earlier this week, the importance of drug rehab clinics was highlighted by campaigners in Northern Ireland.
Protesters fighting the closure of a local drug rehab clinic in Ballymena, East Antrim, warned lives could be at risk unless the centre is kept open.
