Experts are warning of the increasing threat of drug addiction problems caused by prescription painkillers.
The need to enter a rehab clinic to tackle an addiction to painkillers has been highlighted in recent weeks, as the media has focused on the sad death of Michael Jackson and suggestions that the star had been addicted to painkillers.
Rumours that his family were seeking an intervention to help him receive the addiction treatment he needed in the weeks before his death have circulated, although it has not yet been confirmed whether an addiction to drugs had any impact on his death.
Las Vegas' Fox5 News has reported on the threat of drug addiction problems caused by painkillers and warned people that becoming addicted to the substances can be an easy trap to fall into.
Mel Pohl of the Las Vegas recovery center told the news provider that drug addictions related to painkillers are becoming a "huge problem" in Nevada.
"It is a community epidemic, as far as I'm concerned," Dr Pohl added.
Jackson died at the age of 50 last week after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Los Angeles.
The star had been due to perform 50 live dates at London's O2 Arena, beginning in two weeks' time, in what he had claimed would be his swansong before retiring from the music business.
