Increasing numbers of people who have successfully sought drug addiction treatment are making Texas Hill Country their home.
A relatively large number of drug addiction centres have been established in the area in and around Kerr County, with recovering addicts now making up a significant proportion of the local population, mysanantonio.com reports.
Many individuals who have received drug addiction intervention choose to stay in the area in a trend that has been referred to as a "quiet revolution".
Speaking to the news provider, Lisa, who chose not to give her full name, explained that she didn't wish to live "anywhere else".
"You come here, you grow close to the people, you share emotions, you become close and it becomes home," she commented.
In addition to treatment centres, Kerr County accommodates various residential facilities and halfway houses, which has seen a new demographic enter the local population of retired people and those on vacation.
According to National Survey of substance abuse treatment Services, there are between 40,000 and 60,000 people in drug treatment facilities in Texas every month.
