The Scottish Executive is preparing to launch new measures aimed at improving drug addiction treatment facilities in the country.
Scottish ministers are to unveil a range of proposals designed to restructure the way drug and alcohol rehab is provided in Scotland, as part of an effort to cut rising addiction rates.
A new structure will be created to replace the existing 22 Alcohol and Drug Action Teams in the country, instead creating 32 "partnerships" that are designed to provide a more tailored service to individuals affected by drug and alcohol addiction.
Many drug rehab clinics around the world currently advocate delivering tailored services to addicts as a more effective method of tackling their problems, rather than putting people on a one-size-fits-all programme.
The changes, to be launched by community safety minister Fergus Ewing at a major summit designed to focus on the issue of drugs in Scotland, have been introduced in response to recent figures showing the impact of drug abuse in the country.
According to official statistics, drug and alcohol abuse costs Scotland's economy £5 billion a year.
