Addicts should use the track record of a rehab clinic when choosing which one to attend, an expert asserts.
Paul Spanjar, the treatment director for substance abuse support centre Providence Projects, claims the length of time it has been open and the success rate of a particular organisation are important facts to take into consideration.
He says people with alcohol or drug addiction problems should visit the rehab clinic first in order "to have a look round and get a feel of the place" before making up their mind.
Geographical location is another key element and he says various methods of substance abuse treatment are favoured in different parts of the country.
Mr Spanjar says centres provide support and advice, adding it is important to seek medical assistance when overcoming a dependency of this sort.
"Somebody who is suffering from cancer, they need to go to get treatment. If somebody's suffering from any illness they need professional help and an addiction is no different," he states.
In other news, the Drug rehab Alternatives centre has announced it is offering holistic treatments as part of its substance abuse treatment programme.
