A rehab centre in South Africa is teaching a group undergoing addiction treatment how to surf as part of their programme.
The Tabankulu recovery centre is offering people who are dependent on drug abuse, alcoholics and those with related problems to find a new passion for life in the sport.
Lenny Stolk, a man who used to engage in substance abuse, established LJs Surf Clinic, which is now used as part of the Cape Town centre's addiction programme.
Hugh Robinson, the director and owner of Tabankulu, says: "The biggest task for a recovering addict is finding new enthusiasm for life. Surfing gives that - it gets the juices going, new excitement and passion."
One of his students, AD Sabeh - who is being treated for alcohol and drug abuse - claims he was sceptical about taking part in the scheme but warmed to it.
He says: "It takes my mind off drugs and my treatment."
In recent related news, the ABLE project is set to expand its aqua-cultural skills programme to the Rotherham area after its success with young drug addiction victims at its original Wakefield location.
The site is a sustainable fish farming and horticultural centre which allows those recovering from substance abuse the opportunity to develop new skills.
