Swansea in South Wales has a large number of drug and alcohol abusers and addicts in the region. Today between 30 -50 people will be referred for addiction treatment for alcohol or drugs. The same number will occur next week.

Alcohol and drug misuse is larger than it ever has been. With families and communities paying the price.

In Swansea every community is affected and everyone knows someone that has a drug problem. Some even know a handful of people around them.

The numbers last year were around 15000 people who were actually referred for help for their drug problem in South Wales. Around 4000 were from Swansea. These figures were those referred only. The amount of people still addicted. Not reported to having been referred are in the much higher figures.

Education in schools and Alcohol and Drug rehab

People who become drug abusers and alcohol abusers are not just numbers they are someone's daughter, mother, father, brother or Son.  The addiction problem that plagues a lot of our communities is very close to home. Measures must be stepped up. Advise and communication on different addiction treatment options and rehab clinics must be advertised to the public and schools must have the right education that is portrayed in a correct and urgent message for the future so the next generation can improve on what is currently an ever increasing problem.
