Wirral Drug and Alcohol Action Team has been shortlisted for the government's award celebrating the efforts of UK agencies to provide addiction treatment services.
The Tackling Drugs Changing Lives Awards have been held annually by the Home Office for the past four years and recognise the achievements of local agencies and organisations in helping people beat their addictions through innovative and pro-active approaches to drug addiction treatment.
The Wirral organisation has made it through to be one of the 28 regional finalists after being named the north-west provider of the year, thanks to the wide range of initiatives the organisation has undertaken in the past 12 months to improve access to drug addiction rehabilitation facilities for local people.
"Drug use and drug-related crime have fallen in recent years. Such impressive results could not have been achieved without the dedication of the many professionals and volunteers," said Home Office minister Alan Campbell.
The Wirral team has undertaken a significant range of initiatives to help tackle drug addiction in the region over the past year, including the launch of a project aimed at supporting the families of those with addiction problems.
National winners of the Home Office awards will be announced on December 9th, with each winner receiving £10,000 to further their work.
