A mother whose 33-year-old son has died from liver failure is calling on those experiencing alcohol addiction to seek help, which could be provided by rehab clinics.
Linda Balson states that a death from drinking is a "terrible waste" and describes her son's illness as a "horrendous way to die", the Swindon Advertiser reports.
She says that if she can save another parent from the pain it has caused her then some good can come from it.
It is the underlying problems which caused Marcus' death and the time he spent in prison due to his alcohol abuse exacerbated the problem, she tells the news provider.
"People looked at him and all they saw was an alcoholic who had been in and out of prison. But he wanted to get out of that situation - he wanted to look after his little girl and get his life in order," Ms Balsom explains.
rehab clinic Sunset Malibu recently stated that while the decision to overcome alcohol addiction is a personal choice external help is needed.
Emphasising the importance of professional rehabilitation programmes, it says these can provide the help for addiction sufferers that they need.
