February is expected to be a tough month for large numbers of young people in Australia in need of alcohol addiction support.
With the country's holiday season having drawn to a close, there are suggestions that alcohol rehab clinics may see an upturn in activity as individuals try to give up drinking.
One organisation, FebFast, is attempting to raise money for young people in need of alcohol addiction therapy, The Age reports.
Its founder Fiona Healy said that February is a particularly tough month as more people are in need of alcohol addiction support.
Former Olympic rower James Tomkins, who consumes around ten drinks per week, told the newspaper that abstaining from drinking does not adversely affect a person's life.
''In fact it makes it better and more healthy," he commented.
''You're also going to sleep better, you'll lose a couple of kilos and save a bit of money. On a personal level, for the same reasons, I want to give the body a bit of a cleanse, a bit of a detox.''
Men who consume more than 21 units of alcohol per week may be in need of alcohol addiction therapy, while women should not drink more than 14 units a week.
