Making an intervention may seem like a drastic step to many people, but in some cases it is the only thing that can bring an end to a person's addiction problem.
As a friend or family member of someone with an addiction problem, it can be heartbreaking to watch that individual's life fall apart. People can often feel powerless to stop the person falling into a spiral of addiction and this feeling can lead to despair.
However, an intervention offers a concerned friend or loved one the opportunity to make a real difference in the addict's life and give them a chance to turn themselves around. By stepping in through an intervention, a person can play a vital role in helping another tackle their addiction.
While no intervention can guarantee a positive outcome for the person suffering from addiction, it can often be the jolt that the individual needs to wake up to their problems and confront them head-on.
Simply by demonstrating the depth of concern that a person has for the addicted individual, they will be prompting the person to respond and consider for a time their circumstances.
While this will not always be enough, it can provide the addict with the moment of realisation that their problem has spiralled out of control and give them the will and determination to enter a rehab clinic and deal with their addiction.
However, it is important to remember that any intervention can only be the start of the process. The individual must still make the choice to kick their habit and access some form of rehabilitation treatment of their own accord, otherwise any addiction treatment will be short-lived.
